Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out of the third Test against South Africa, and will also not bowl in the ongoing second Test at Melbourne. Green injured his finger while batting in the first innings on the second day when he faced a fiery delivery from Anrich Nortje. He retired hurt during the game and went for medical care.

Cricket Australia revealed that the 23-year-old has incurred a small fracture on his right index finger, which would mean he will not bowl in the remainder of the match. Green will not bowl in this series and will be sidelined for the third and final Sydney Test which is scheduled to begin on January 4, 2023. Australia would want Green to recover quickly so as to return for the India series.

Green missing out on the bowling unit is a major blow to Australia as the all-rounder recorded his career-best figures of 5/27 in the first innings against Proteas. Thanks to his heroics, Australia managed to dish out the visitors for 189 runs. The hosts dominated with the bat, courtesy of David Warner who struck 200 runs off 255 deliveries.

On the second day of the Test, Australia faced another setback as Warner walked back retired hurt. While celebrating his double ton, he pulled off his iconic jump celebration, but hurt his leg while landing. But Warner, however, returned to bat on the third day. Green was brave enough to come out to bat after Australia lost their seventh wicket on the third day, despite the fractured finger.

South Africa claimed four wickets to start the third day’s proceedings, thanks to Anrich Nortje who wreaked havoc. The four wickets also included one of Warner, who walked back to bat after having left his innings at 200*(254) on the previous day. But Nortje’s fiery delivery led to Warner’s dismissal on the very first ball he faced on the third day.
