South Africa’s long-awaited tour to Australia kickstarted with the first Test in Brisbane on December 17. Looking at the green top at the Gabba, Australia skipper Pat Cummins opted to bowl first. The Kangaroos didn’t waste much time and ruptured the top-order of the visitors to establish their authority.

After four quick wickets, wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne and Temba Bavuma stitched an important partnership of 98 but as soon as they departed, the floodgates opened once again as the Proteas were bundled out for 152.

Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon were ruthless as they picked three wickets each. Meanwhile, Cummins and Scott Bolland shared two each. For South Africa, Verreynne scored 64 while Bavuma chalked up 38 runs.

Ricky Ponting’s prediction comes true, once again

The two-time world cup winning captain, Ricky Ponting is known for his accurate predictions and Saturday was no different. Last year, in Adelaide Test against England, Ponting predicted how Ben Stokes will target Cameron Green and the same happened. This time, the 47-year-old accurately predicted Jansen’s mode of dismissal after Pat Cummins changed Australia’s field in the 40th over.

Ponting mentioned that the South African all-rounder will try to smash Lyon over the top and the same happened. Jansen tried to release some pressure and took on Lyon, but lost his wicket in the process as he gave a catch to Cameron Green at short-mid wicket.

After South Africa were bundled out for 152, the Aussie top-order faced the wrath of Proteas pacers as Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Jansen got rid of the top-order but Steve Smith and Travis Head rebuilt the innings with a 117-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
