KL Rahul-led Team India earned a bonus of five runs when the ball struck the helmet positioned at the back of the wicket-keeper unintentionally on Day 2 of the ongoing Test match in Chattogram.

The incident occurred in the 112th over of the Indian innings when veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was on strike. Ashwin got an outside edge to guide the ball through the third man and managed to take a double. Yasir Ali, who was fielding at that position, went after the ball and intended to throw it towards the keeper but ended up handing the Indian side an additional five runs as the ball hit the pair of helmets placed behind the keeper.

According to ICC rule, if the ball strikes a fielder's helmet when it is on the field but not being worn, the batting teams will be awarded five penalty runs.

R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav drive India to commandable position

Team India posted a total of 278/6 at the end of Day 1 in Chattogram after losing their top-order early in the match. However, middle-order batters Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara got the derailed side, on track with their knocks. Iyer was dismissed for 86 while the India vice-captain contributed 90 runs to the team tally.

On Day 2, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav frustrated the Bangladesh bowlers with a 92-run stand to take the visitors to a strong position.

KL Rahul and Co. will need results to fall in their favour in the two-match Test series if they are to make any case for a spot in the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. Whereas Bangladesh are trying hard to give the Indian side a run for their money and register their first win in the red-ball format against the rival side.
