Mustafizur Rahman held his nerve in the final over when Rohit threatened to do the unthinkable as Bangladesh got over the line in a nail-biting thriller. India fell short by just five runs in the end while Bangladesh sealed the three-match series 2-0.

The Men in Blue lost the big wicket of Virat Kohli early for just five runs while Shikhar Dhawan did not hang around long too in the run chase of 272. Washington Sundar got a promotion up the order at number four but he failed to capitalise on the opportunity. KL Rahul, the in-form batter was trapped LBW in front of the wickets after adding 14 runs and it looked like India could be bundled up soon.

However, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel stitched a partnership of 107 runs for the fifth wicket and kept India in the hunt. Both the batters settled quite well at the crease until Iyer went for a big shot and was caught in the deep after a well-made 82. Axar followed him soon after making a half-century and India were down to 207 for 7 in the 43rd over.

Rohit's valiant innings goes in vain

Rohit Sharma who suffered a thumb injury came out to bat at number nine in the order and he tried his heart out with a 28-ball 51*. He brought the visitors close to winning but could not end up on the winning side.

Earlier, Bangladesh suffered a top-order collapse in the first innings and were reeling at 69 for 6 at one stage of the innings. However, the likes of Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan stitched a huge partnership for the seventh wicket and revived the innings for the hosts. While Mahmudullah perished for 77, Mehidy did not miss the chance to get to the three-figure mark and brought up his maiden century in ODIs.
