KL Rahul-led team India registered a 2-0 series win after emerging victorious in the second and final red-ball contest by three wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. After the impressive win in Chattogram, team India made a rather bold decision of dropping spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who relished a terrific outing in the first Test match and included an extra seamer in Jaydev Unadkat.

The move worked quite well for the side as Unadkat picked up the two crucial wickets of Zakir Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in the first innings. Adding to this, Umesh Yadav and veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up four each and helped India bundle out Bangladesh for just 227 runs. The visitors then responded with 314 runs courtesy of Rishabh Pant’s majestic 93-run knock coupled with Shreyas Iyer’s 87 runs.

Bangladesh then tried to put up a decent target in their final innings but a determined Indian bowling swiftly scalped the wickets in a combined team performance. The Bangla Tigers were eventually dismissed for just 231 runs thereby handing a 145-run target for the rival side to chase.

The Bangla Tigers led by their talismanic skipper Shakib Al Hasan forced the visitors to press the panic button in their run chase. Both Shakib and Mehidy Hasan took control of the bowling innings and picked seven wickets between them which included a fifer from the latter.

After losing back-to-back wickets, team India needed Shreyas Iyer and veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to step up and help the side get ahead to have some hopes to clinch the series. The duo rightfully did so as they carved out a delicate partnership before the two shifted gears and displayed some aggression, getting the vital boundaries for the side.

KL Rahul and Co. marked a remarkable comeback from the jaws of defeat and have clinched the series 2-0 in the final Test match. The Indian side is also in contention for a spot in the finals of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 and the win has handed them a significant boost for their next red-ball assignment against Australia.
