Steven Smith continues his firing in the Big Bash League 2022-23 with another monstrous knock in Sydney Sixers' clash against Hobart Hurricanes on Monday (January 22). He smashed 66 off 33 with the help of four fours and six sixes to help the Sixers score 180/7 while batting first. He missed out on scoring his third consecutive hundred but grabbed the headlines again for hitting a six onto the rooftop during his innings.
After storming two quick hundreds, Smith started against the Hurricanes by smashing a big six and two fours to Joel Paris's deliveries in the second over. He went on to add five more sixes and now has 24 sixes from his four BBL innings this season.
Smith brought up his fifty in innings' seventh over and took only 22 balls for it. He reached the fifty in style as he smashed a six and four to Tim David's back-to-back deliveries in the seventh over. His six took the breathe away as the ball ended onto the rooftop of Hobart's Bellerive Oval. The delivery was well outside off but that didn't matter to Smith who picked it up for a six over the deep square leg out of the ground.
Watch Smith's six landing onto the rooftop of Bellerive Oval:
Smith smashed a four on the very next delivery to complete his 22-ball half-century. He added one more six and four to Faheem Ashraf's deliveries in the next over. But he was trapped in front of the stumps by Nathan Ellis in the ninth over and missed out on another century.
After Smith's dismissal, captain Moises Henriques scored 23* off 16 and pacer Ben Dwarshuis smashed 30 off 16 to guide the Sixers to 180/7 in their last group-stage match. The Sixers have already secured a place in the Qualifier 1 clash alongside league toppers Perth Scorchers with nine wins from 13 matches this season.
