A video that has surfaced on social media recently shows two cricket players hitting two cops with slippers, following which, two policemen in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut area received suspensions after they were accused of being involved in the assault with the two Ranji players.

Video of the brawl, which was caught on CCTV camera, showed the former Indian U-19 cricketer Vineet Pawar and another Prashant Chaudhary indulging in a fight with police personnel and hitting them with slippers. It could be seen that Vineet and Prashant initiated the fight and then assaulted the two assistant sub-inspectors, namely Varun Sharma and Jitendra Kumar. They then beat them up with slippers as other onlookers tried to intervene and mediate between the two groups.

An article posted on myKhel stated that Sharma and Kumar were accused of consuming alcohol in their vehicles in front of the main gate of Pawar and Chaudhary's cricket academy in Bhamashah Park, also known as Victoria Park. A verbal spat between the two groups soon transpired into a brawl.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Meerut Police informed that the circle officer of the Civil Lines area, Arvind Chaurasia, had analyzed the video footage and then submitted his latest report to the senior officials to help them in their investigation.

It was also informed that the two Sub-Inspectors had been suspended after receiving complaints from the two concerned cricketers.

However, following the emergence of the latest CCTV footage, circle officer Chaurasia mentioned that a new report had to be sent in accordance with the recovered footage where the cricketers could be seen charging upon the policemen, who were earlier suspended after being thought to be the original perpetrators.

"Let the officials examine the new evidence and take decision," said Chaurasia, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

Notably, Bhamashah Park is the same ground where players such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Priyam Garg and Karn Sharma had spent their preparatory classes of cricket, before establishing themselves as celebrated stars of IPL and India's national cricket team.
