Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returned two wickets in his very first over during the ongoing clash against Rajasthan Royals. Notably, the two sides locked horns in match 17 of the IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, April 12.
Rajasthan Royals got off to a brisk start in the first innings as the side got 57 runs in the powerplay. Despite the early breakthrough of southpaw Yashasvi Jaiswal for 11 runs, it was flamboyant opener Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal, who got the big runs to remain steady in the innings.
However, skipper MS Dhoni introduced Ravindra Jadeja into the attack in the ninth over, who immediately struck twice off his first over. Impressively, he got the vital scalps of Padikkal (38 runs) and rival skipper Sanju Samson for a naught.
In the third ball of Jadeja’s over, Padikkal got a top-edge which was comfortably pouched by Devon Conway at deep backward square leg which ended the 77-run stand between the southpaw and Jos Buttler.
Two balls later, Jadeja castled Samson as he bowled it on a length around off and middle to send the latter packing for a duck off just two balls. In doing so, the star all-rounder attained an impressive feat as he got 200 T20 wickets with his double in his first over.
Moeen Ali drops twice at slip against RR
Jadeja was on the cusp of ending Ravichandran Ashwin’s stay at the crease in the very next ball to claim a third wicket. However, a drop by Moeen Ali at slip saw Ashwin continue his game. Additionally, this was Moeen’s second drop in the high-octane contest at slip as he dropped Padikkal in the fifth over previously.
Meanwhile, Buttler is on course to register a half-century and will look to hand the Royals a competitive first innings total. It remains to be seen if MS Dhoni’s Super Kings get a few more breakthroughs to dent the steady innings by the Men in Pink.
