In the first T20I between England and New Zealand, the home team took a strange review as the ball hit the middle of Glenn Phillips' bat. Skipper and wicket-keeper Jos Buttler appealed to the umpire, but bowler Liam Livingstone didn’t look too interested. Despite this, Buttler went on to review, but in the DRS, it was spotted that the ball hit the bat and was nowhere close to the pads.

The DRS appeal went viral on social as many laughed it off, thinking it was silly from England. New Zealand were six wickets down, and hence, it is believed that the home team was trying to take more advantage of the situation, but in the end, it went against their favour.

Meanwhile, coming to the match, England won the toss and elected to field first. New Zealand struggled to get going as Phillips was the only batter who carried on after a good start. Only five of their batters crossed the double-digit mark as the Black Caps posted 139 in the first innings. Phillips hit 41 runs off 38 deliveries, while Luke Wood and Brydon Carse picked three wickets for Three Lions.

Coming to England's chase, Will Jacks started really well but failed to convert it into a big score. He hit 22 runs off 12 deliveries, and after he returned to the pavilion, Dawid Malan and Harry Brrok took control of the situation. Batting at number three, Malan hit 54 runs off 42 deliveries, while Brook smacked 43* runs off 27 deliveries. The home team chased the total down in just 14 overs.

Interestingly, Tim Southee picked up one wicket in the match and became the leading wicket-taker in the history of T20I cricket. In the absence of skipper Kane Williamson, he is currently leading the team in England and will aim to bounce back in the remaining three matches of the series.
