Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who was among the first batch of players - including Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kuldeep Yadav - to leave for the USA from Mumbai on May 25, underwent his first rigorous practice session. The captain shared pictures on his official X handle of the same.
Remarkably, the 37-year-old will compete in his ninth T20 World Cup, joining Bangladeshi all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, as the only players to have participated in every edition of the tournament.

Rohit, who ranks as the fourth-highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history with 963 runs from 36 innings, boasts an impressive average of 34.39 and a strike rate of 127.88.
The star batter, however, had a poor showing in the previous edition of the tournament, scoring just 116 runs in six innings, in an event where England inflicted a crushing semi-final defeat on India, utterly dismantling them with a 10-wicket victory. For India to have any chance of going the distance this time around, they will heavily depend on the skipper to provide prompt and galvanizing starts.
The batter, would be raring to go, after having had a fairly good IPL 2024, scoring 417 runs in 14 innings, including a superb 105* (63) against the Chennai Super Kings, albeit in a losing cause.
Furthermore, Rohit's confidence would likely be on a high going into the tournament, in light of his performance in India's previous ICC event, the Cricket World Cup 2023, where he excelled both as a batter and a leader. Leading India to an impressive string of 10 consecutive victories before their defeat in the final, he amassed a formidable total of 597 runs across 11 innings.
