After registering a comprehensive win against Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma expressed that he fulfilled his childhood dream of raising a partnership with skipper Rohit Sharma. Notably, the five-time IPL winners clinched their first points in the league following a six-wicket win against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, April 11.

David Warner-led Capitals posted a competitive total of 172 runs in their first innings. In response, MI skipper Rohit and Ishan Kishan swiftly hit the ground running as they got 71 runs between them before the latter was sent back to the pavilion.

Additionally, the skipper was aided by the 20-year-old, Tilak Varma, as the duo stitched an impressive 68-run partnership which eventually led to MI’s successful run chase in the contest. During an interaction with Rohit, Tilak revealed that he was delighted to have forged a partnership with the skipper and called it his ‘childhood dream’.

“I was waiting to bat with you since last year. I got the opportunity today. I thought I would take full advantage of it. Having a partnership with you gives me a lot of joy. It was my dream from childhood,” said Tilak during the interaction.

I was mentally strong: Tilak Varma on dealing with injury

While Rohit scored 65 runs off 45 balls, Tilak Varma concluded with a 29-ball 41 which included four maximums and one boundary. The skipper further quizzed Tilak on his mindset after sustaining an injury during India A's tour of Bangladesh in December 2022. The 20-year-old stated that he wanted to remain sharp with his batting and play as a match-winner for the side this season.

"I was mentally strong when I was injured, and I could not wait to get back on the field. I was only thinking about how to be better when I get back out to play, put in my best effort and do well for the team. So, I prepared according to that. Last year I could not finish well for the team, so I was thinking about how to win matches for the team this year,” he responded.
