IND vs SL: Virat Kohli turns umpire in dugout, gives his own decision as Rohit Sharma survives close DRS call

Virat Kohli was the star for India with the bat in the first One Day International against Sri Lanka at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, January 10 as he registered his 45th ODI ton which turned out to be the 73rd of his decorated international career. 

Apart from his outstanding batting skills, Kohli also turned umpire in the dugout to provide best entertainment to fans and hilariously made his own decision in relation to skipper Rohit Sharma’s DRS.

When Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were batting, Virat was seen enthusiastically cheering and clapping for the duo from the dugout as they dealt in boundaries at regular intervals. He was also seen having some fun with youngster Ishan Kishan who was benched for this contest.

However, his humorous side was seen when he gave his own decision from the dugout while Sharma survived a close DRS call. The ‘Hitman’ was taken by surprise by a delivery from Sri Lanka leggie Wanindu Hasaranga which struck him on the pads and all the Lankan players appealed instantly.

The appeal was turned down by the on-field umpire and skipper Dasun Shanaka wasted no time in getting the decision reviewed. It turned out to be a disappointment for the visitors when ‘Not Out’ flashed on the giant screen.

The Lankans had their reasons to be disappointed as the googly that had stunned Sharma was clipping the top of the middle stump as per the Hawk Eye, but since the decision made by the on-field umpire was not-out, the final decision went in the batter’s favor as Rohit lived to fight another day.

However, the cameras that zoomed at the dugout told a different story where Virat Kohli was spotted raising his index finger while having a chat with Ishan Kishan possibly indicating that Rohit Sharma was out.

Rohit Sharma misses out on a well-deserved century

Rohit missed out on a well-deserved century when he was bowled by Dilshan Madushanka for a quickfire 67-ball 83. Nonetheless, he did some serious damage before walking back to the pavilion as he laid a solid foundation for India by adding 143 runs for the opening wicket along with Shubman Gill.
