In the ongoing IPL 2023 match between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, an interesting incident happened on his third delivery of the Titans' batting. The flamboyant opener, Wriddhiman Saha, while facing the gun bowler, Trent Boult, tried to whip a fullish delivery pitched between the middle and leg stump line towards the square leg. However, Saha ended up playing the ball a touch early and skied it up straight over the pitch area.
Meanwhile, Hetmyer, Jurel, and the skipper Sanju Samson as fielders charged ahead to attempt the catch and almost ended up colliding with each other. Notably, Shimron Hetmyer had darted from the point region, while Dhruv Jurel dashed from the point area. Amidst the catch. it was probably Samson who felt the safest to go for the catch being a wicketkeeper.
Hilariously enough, a great sense of awareness from the bowler in Boult itself meant he cleanly completed the fumbled catch. It is worth mentioning that the RR bowler on sensing the utter chaos positioned himself by steering a little away from the rest of the fielders.
Consequently, in anticipation of a rebound catch, Boult remained vigilant by keeping his hands on his hips and waited for the right moment to pounce on the ball. Ultimately, he took the catch to dismiss the batter successfully. Moreover, all the fielders realized their mistake of not calling for the catch and were left with smiles on their face.
Gujarat Titans have posted a competitive total against the Rajasthan Royals
Speaking of the ongoing game, after Saha's dismissal, Shubman Gill carried the innings further and played a crucial knock of 45 runs off 34 balls. Thereafter, other batters chipped in with cameos but David Miller's 46-run knock kept the Titans in the game. Skipper Hardik Pandya, tried to take the game deep by staying at the crease for as long as he can but got dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal on 28. At that juncture, the Titans were reeling at 91/3 on the board. However, their innings flourished further, courtesy of the valuable contribution from the youngster, Abhinav Manohar.
The batter during his 13-ball stay smacked three sixes and scored 27 runs. Eventually, Rajasthan Royals have been given a target of 178 runs. So far the bowling of the visitors remained a highlight of the encounter as they kept things tight by not allowing easy boundaries to their opposition. Notably, a lot of singles were taken by the Titans' side. Henceforth, it will be interesting to see if the Royals are able to defend the total against the hosts.
