Ahead of the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was seen sweating it out in a training session at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Chennai-based franchise will kickstart proceedings when they square off against defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 31.
As the season is around the corner, few players and staff members of the franchise are gearing up with practice sessions at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In a video shared by CSK’s official Instagram handle, skipper MS Dhoni can be clearly seen sweating it out in one of the net sessions.
In the video, a calm MS Dhoni can be seen playing the ‘no-look’ six with sheer panache. While there is much speculation over his retirement, fans could possibly witness the skipper donning the yellow outfit one final time this season for CSK.
CSK aim for fifth title
It is worth noting that the Chennai-based franchise endured a tough time in IPL 2022. The side finished second last on the points table having won just four matches in 14 outings last edition. In addition to that, the side faced issues internally as Dhoni's long-time deputy Ravindra Jadeja was handed over the reins but failed to create the required impact for the side.
Following the consecutive losses, Dhoni returned as the skipper of the side for the remainder of the season. They will aim to bounce back from last year's debacle as they kickstart their campaign against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans.
The franchise did fairly well at the mini-auction in December 2022 acquiring the likes of English all-rounder Ben Stokes for a mammoth INR 16.25 crore and Ajinkya Rahane among others. The four-time IPL winners play seven home matches just like the other franchises.
Considering that Chennai will have the home advantage this season, the side will be raring to make the most of it and get back to its glory days. A record fifth title could be on the cards if CSK manage to get their game right this season.
