The 63rd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Super Giants and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Sports City Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 16.

Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, Deepak Hooda and veteran South African batter Quinton de Kock opened the innings for the hosts. Looking to provide a good start for his side, de Kock failed to make as much of an impact as he was dismissed for just 16 runs. However, the 30-year-old executed the shot of the day, which made quite a few heads turn.

Batting in the second over of the first innings, facing new Mumbai recruit Chris Jordan, de Kock played a shot for the ages. In the last ball of the second over, Jordan bowled the delivery right over the leg side at a length that was easy for de Kock to pick up. The 30-year-old flicked the bat and muscled the ball out of the ground over deep backward square leg.

LSG, MI look to book playoff berth

Currently, both Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians are battling it out for a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament. Mumbai currently find themselves in third place in the IPL points table with 14 points from 12 matches. On the other hand, Lucknow find themselves in fourth place with 13 points in 12 games.

They would look to win their remaining group-stage matches to book a spot in the playoffs of the competition. After their clash against each other, both Mumbai and Lucknow will have one match each left in the group stage of the IPL 2023.

Lucknow will go up against Kolkata Knight Riders in match 68 of the tournament on Saturday, May 20. Mumbai Indians take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 69th match of the competition on May 21. It could be interesting to see how both sides fare in their clashes and who comes out on top to secure a berth in the knockout stages.
