The 20th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a thrilling clash between the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, on Saturday, April 15.

Looking to register their first win of the IPL season, Delhi Capitals came into the game as they meant to go on. Bowling first, the David Warner-led side put in fabulous performance. On the other hand, Bangalore aimed for similar performances from their batters as they looked to set up a big total.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis opened the innings, and the ace Indian batter scored his 47th half-century in the IPL, amassing 50 runs in 34 deliveries. Skipper Du Plessis, who played a fabulous knock in his previous game, failed to make an impact as he only managed to score 22 runs in 16 balls. Furthermore, Glenn Maxwell, who was sensational for Bangalore in their previous match, failed to score big as he was sent back to the pavilion for just 24 runs in 14 balls.

After the Faf du Plessis-led side plummeted towards a batting collapse, decent knocks by Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Anuj Rawat helped them post 174 runs on the board after 20 overs.

Delhi Capitals fail to register their first win of the IPL 2023

Coming in to chase the target, Delhi Capitals got off to the worst of starts. Indian batter Prithvi Shaw’s horrid run continued as he ran himself out for a duck in the very first over of the second innings. To further mount pressure on Delhi, Mitchell Marsh was sent back to the pavilion by Wayne Parnell. Marsh put in a fabulous performance with the ball, but the 31-year-old failed to impress with the bat.

Vijaykumar Vyshak came in as a surprise package as he took three wickets in the four overs he bowled and conceded just 20 runs. Mohammed Siraj also had two wickets to his name along with Wayne Parnell, who struck once against Delhi.

Skipper David Warner, who had been consistently amassing runs for Delhi, failed to capitalise as well. The 36-year-old only managed to score 19 runs in 13 balls. After Delhi had lost their first four wickets in the powerplay, there was little to play for in the middle overs as Bangalore clinched an emphatic victory over Delhi, winning the game by 23 runs.
