The Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni continued his fireworks in the IPL 2023 as he played a blistering cameo of 20 off nine balls against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, May 11 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Courtesy of his knock, CSK posted a total of 167/8 in the first innings and went on to win the match by 27 runs restricting DC to 140/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Following CSK’s win, Dhoni’s daughter Ziva was seen running towards his father during the post-match presentation and gave a warm hug to Captain Cool. The adorable moment between the father and daughter is being loved by fans all over the internet.
Notably, Ziva and her mother Sakshi were present at the stadium during the match and were seen celebrating Dhoni’s monstrous hits during his short innings. Coming back to the match, after opting to bat first, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave a decent start to their side adding 32 runs for the first wicket.
Both Conway and Gaikwad fell to Axar Patel who claimed the first two strikes for his team. Chennai further lost Moeen Ali (7 off 12) and Ajinkya Rahane (21 off 20) in the middle overs as DC spinners tightened their grip on the game. However, cameos from Shivam Dube (25 off 12), Ambati Rayudu (23 off 17), Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 16) and Dhoni helped CSK finish their innings on 167/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
CSK end DC's two-match winning streak
In the second innings, DC got off to the worst possible start as Deepak Chahar dismissed their captain David Warner in the first over itself. The medium-fast bowler further got rid of the dangerous Philip Salt in the third over to make matters worse for DC. DC further lost Mitchell Marsh in the fourth over due to a run out and were in all sorts of trouble.
Manish Pandey and Rilee Rossouw got involved in a run-a-ball 59-run stand to stabilise the innings. However, both batters failed to keep up with the required run rate and lost their wickets. Following their dismissals, no one from Delhi except Axar Patel (21 off 12) showed some fight. As a result, DC could only manage to reach 140/8 in their allotted 20 overs, handing a 27-run win to CSK.
