'It is the perfect situation for me' - Rohit Sharma opens up on T20I retirement call post clinching T20 World Cup 2024

In a comprehensive conclusion to the T20 World Cup 2024 for Rohit Sharma & Co., India ultimately ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought with a remarkable seven-run come-from-behind triumph in the final against South Africa. However, amidst the euphoric celebrations, there was also a subdued acknowledgment of an era drawing to a close, as stalwarts Virat Kohli and skipper, Rohit Sharma, announced their retirements from T20Is.

In a candid post-match conversation after the celebrations, Rohit shared with reporters that the decision to retire from T20Is had not been a premeditated one. Rather, he explained that it had arisen from his personal deliberations, particularly influenced by the breakthrough victory in an ICC event as captain. He emphasized that the timing felt perfect to conclude his T20I career, coinciding with the triumphant moment of securing the title of the T20 World Cup 2024. When queried about his participation in the IPL, Rohit affirmed decisively that he would indeed be playing, expressing certainty that he would be partaking in the cash-rich league.

"Maine socha nahi tha ki T20Is se retire karunga mai, but situation aesa aagaya hai (I had not originally thought of retiring from T20Is, but I think the apt moment has come). It is the perfect situation for me, nothing better than winning the Cup and saying goodbye," stated Rohit. 

During the conversation, a reporter also informed Rohit about an Instagram post from former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, congratulating the team on their remarkable achievement and describing it as an ideal birthday present. Dhoni, a prominent figure in Indian cricket and the first Indian captain to win the 2007 edition of the T20 World Cup will be celebrating his 43rd birthday on June 7, 2024.
