With the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies just around the corner, the debates and speculations surrounding India's ideal playing XI are increasing. Among the most discussed topics is the opening pair for the Men in Blue. Former Indian women's fast bowling stalwart Jhulan Goswami has weighed in on this debate, expressing her preference for a formidable opening duo.

Roughly a little over 10 days remain until the much-awaited T20 World Cup squad announcement. A recent report suggested that India captain Rohit Sharma would open the batting alongside Virat Kohli, a surprising revelation considering either Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill partnering Rohit at the top.

Weighing in on the matter, Jhulan Goswami took to her social media platform, stating, "In my opinion for a strong playing 11, Team India should have Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma opening in the T20 World Cup. Do you agree?" she wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Haven’t met so far: Rohit Sharma

Rohit recently addressed the speculation during an interview with former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist and England cricket Michael Vaughan on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast. The Indian captain clarified that no decisions have been made regarding the opening pair, effectively dismissing the report as false.

“We haven’t met so far. In today’s age, until and unless you don’t hear from me, Rahul bhai or Ajit bhai, or someone from BCCI, everything else is fake”, said Rohit earlier.

With the final squad announcement deadline set for May 1st, the Indian selection committee faces a critical responsibility in getting a well-balanced squad for the marquee event.

India's campaign will commence against Ireland on June 5th in New York, followed by the highly anticipated clash against Pakistan on June 9th at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Men in Blue will also be up against the co-host USA in their third game followed by Canada.
