In the ICC World Cup 2023's first semi-final clash at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Virat Kohli outshone the Kiwi challenge, crafting a century that not only propelled India but also etched his name above the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's ODI centuries. Having previously matched Tendulkar's record at Eden Gardens, Kohli surpassed it in a stunning display at Wankhede. The moment unfolded in the presence of the cricket maestro himself, adding a touch of poetic brilliance to Kohli's remarkable feat.

Kohli's stellar performance in the semi-final clash against New Zealand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium saw him surpass Tendulkar's record for the most runs in a single World Cup as well. Kohli eclipsed Tendulkar's 673-run tallyfrom the 2003 World Cup, reaching a sublime century in the process.

Facing 106 deliveries, Kohli's innings was a cricketing masterpiece, adorned with eight crisply struck fours and a powerful six. As he notched up his 50th ODI hundred, Kohli's celebration was a blend of triumph and humility. Arms raised in acknowledgment, he gracefully sank to his knees, removing his helmet in a moment of reverence to the cheering fans.

The Wankhede Stadium, where Tendulkar had once wielded his own magic, witnessed Kohli's cricketing prowess firsthand. The home crowd, including Tendulkar himself, applauded the modern maestro as he etched his name in the cricketing history. Kohli's unbeaten century, achieved with poise and precision, marked a standout moment in the semi-final showdown, a performance that will resonate in the cricketing echelons for years to come.

"It's stuff of dreams, Anushka was sitting right there, Sachin paaji was there in the stands,. I mean, it's very difficult for me to explain this, but if I could paint the perfect picture, I would want this to be the picture. My life partner, the person I love the most, she's sitting there. My hero, he's sitting there. And I was able to get the 50th in front of all of them and all these fans at Wankhede as well, such a historic venue. It was amazing," he said after his stellar knock.
"I said it in Kolkata, the great man (Sachin Tendulkar) just congratulated me, all this feels like a dream for me, honestly," Kohli said. "It's too good to be true, feels surreal, I never thought I'll be here ever in my career. Just to help the team so many times, again, a big game today, I had to kind of play the role I've played throughout the tournament so that the guys around me can go and express themselves. Just glad that everything came together so nicely and we put up a great total on the board as well," added Kohli.
