'Let's make some beautiful memories together' - Suresh Raina shares heartwarming post as son Rio starts cricketing journey

Suresh Raina has marked a new chapter in his family life by sharing that his son Rio has taken his first steps in cricket. A compilation of photos posted on August 31, 2026 shows Rio dressed in cricket gear and visiting a bat factory to choose his bats, capturing the beginning of what the former India batter described as a shared journey between father and son.

Raina, the former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder, posted the update on his Instagram handle @sureshraina3.

"Like father, like son! And so, our cricket journey begins, bud. I'm looking forward to experiencing the joy, excitement and innocence of the game all over again, this time through your eyes. Let's make some beautiful memories together," he wrote in the caption.

Suresh Raina's career in numbers

Rio was born in March 23, 2020 and is Raina's second child with his wife Priyanka. The couple had welcomed their daughter Gracia in 2016. When Rio arrived, Raina announced the news on social media with the words: "We are proud to welcome our son & Gracia's little brother - Rio Raina."

Raina represented India in 322 international appearances between 2005 and 2018, across 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is. He holds the distinction of being the first Indian to score centuries in all three formats of international cricket, with every one of those centuries coming outside India. He announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, the same day MS Dhoni confirmed his own international retirement.

In ODIs, Raina scored 5,615 runs in 226 matches at an average of 35.31, with a best of 116 not out, five centuries and 36 half-centuries. His T20I record shows 1,604 runs in 78 matches at an average of 29.16, including one century and five half-centuries. Across 18 Tests, he accumulated 768 runs from 31 innings at an average of 26.48, with a best of 120, one century and seven half-centuries.

In the IPL, Raina scored 5,528 runs in 205 matches at an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.74. He was a prominent figure for Chennai Super Kings across most of his IPL career. He was part of the CSK side that claimed two Champions League T20 titles.
