The ongoing League Legends Cricket 2023 tournament has fans buzzing with excitement as they get to see their favorite cricket legends in action once again. In the fifth match of the tournament, World Giants took on India Maharajas in what promised to be a thrilling encounter.
Giants won the toss and elected to field first. In the absence of their regular skipper, Gautam Gambhir, India Maharajas were led by former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh. Batting first, Maharajas notched up 136 runs on the board and lost nine wickets in the process.
It was the knock of former Indian batter Suresh Raina that was integral to the team's being able to score that many runs. The 36-year-old truly turned back the clock as he managed to score 49 runs off 41 deliveries. During his innings, Raina hit two fours and three sixes in classic fashion and also played his trademark shot.
World Giants register win over India Maharajas
Apart from Raina’s fabulous knock, Manvinder Bisla also scored 36 runs in the process. Irfan Pathan also came through for his side, as he notched up 25 runs on the board. World Giants were able to stop Maharajas with a score of 135 through some marvelous bowling by Brett Lee.
The former Australian pacer bowled three overs where he took three wickets and conceded just 18 runs. Tino Best and Chris Mpofu also took two wickets each to put a dent in their opponents’ plans.
As they came in to bat, Giants got just the start they needed as Chris Gayle scored a fabulous half-century. The legendary batter scored 57 runs in 46 deliveries to propel his side to another victory. It was Suresh Raina who took Gayle’s wicket and sent him back to the pavilion.
Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson scored 26 runs, which were integral for his side in capturing the much-needed victory. Gayle was named Player of the Match for his knock.
