It was a historic day for the Netherlands side who managed to upset one of the favourites to qualify from  Group 2, South Africa in a crucial encounter in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stages. On the back of an unbeaten 41 from Colin Ackermann, the Netherlands reached 158 for 4 in their 20 overs. South Africa were fancied to win the game, however, an extraordinary bowling effort from the Dutch side helped to snatch a victory from nowhere for the Netherlands.

The game had a huge effect on the points table as South Africa were knocked out of the tournament after the loss while the Pakistan-Bangladesh game went on to become a virtual qualifier. While no one would have expected the Proteas to suffer a loss, Netherlands managed to do the unthinkable and kept Pakistan’s hopes alive in the tournament who defeated Bangladesh and secured a place into the semis.

Notably, with the victory, Netherlands went above Bangladesh in the points table to the fourth position. It was a great moment for the Netherlands as they will have the chance to qualify for the next T20 World Cup directly without playing the qualifiers if they can stick to the same position.

Pakistan players came down from the stands into the ground after the game and while the handshakes were on, one of the Netherlands players demanded a return favour from Pakistan. The message was clear as the player told “Make sure that you WIN so we finish 4th". The video of it went viral on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Netherlands' wishes came true as Pakistan beat Bangladesh in their final encounter and have reached the semi-finals of the tournament. It also has strengthened the position of Netherlands in the table above Bangladesh and the Dutch will now be hoping for India to beat Zimbabwe so that their qualification in 2024 T20 World Cup is confirmed.
