In a major development for the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board), the board announced the appointment of former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez as the team’s new head coach and team director, replacing Mickey Arthur.
With the merging of the roles, former Pakistan cricketer Muhammad Asif took to Twitter and opined that the PCB is left with no credibility and has no more authority to run its affairs.
“Someone resigns in Sep from technical committee and is hired back as director of cricket cum head coach in Nov? Under this chairman PCB is left with zero credibility and authority to run its affairs,” Asif tweeted.

Hafeez was part of the PCB’s technical committee and the change of him becoming the head coach and the team director came after the Men in Green’s performances at the ongoing ODI World Cup and their elimination from the group stage of the tournament.
It was also confirmed by the PCB that the side’s coaching staff will be working together with the National Cricket Academy while the PCB announce the new coaching staff.
Hafeez to coach Pakistan for upcoming series
Notably, Mohammad Hafeez will be the head coach of Pakistan for three Test matches in Australia and five T20Is in New Zealand in December and January. After their disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan will be keen on putting in improved performances in their upcoming assignments.
Led by Babar Azam, the side finished in fifth place in the standings with eight points in nine matches. The side barely missed out on making it to the knockout stages of the tournament and were eliminated after New Zealand occupied fourth place in the standings and faced India in the semi-finals.
