Earlier in the IPL 2023 season, when Mumbai Indians hosted Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, the visiting team won the match by 13 runs, after ace pacer Arshdeep Singh managed to break the middle stump twice in the final over of the game.
Following the incident, Punjab Kings jokingly registered a police complaint on Twitter stating that they want to report a crime. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police replied in a cheeky fashion, stating that they can only take action if someone breaks the law, not stumps.
However, Mumbai Indians didn’t forget about the incident and took a dig at Punjab Kings after beating them by six wickets in the return leg. After their massive win, Mumbai on their Twitter handle posted that they don’t want to register any complaint as they came to win in Mohali and successfully managed to do so.
“To all Police departments, Nothing to report here. We just played a game of cricket in Mohali and a team was beaten here. You guys have important matters to take care of. Thank you for your services as always,” Mumbai Indians posted on their Twitter.
Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav shine in Mumbai’s win
Batting first, Punjab Kings started slow but later on, Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma completely changed the momentum in the favour of the home side. The England international smashed 82* runs off 42 deliveries while stumper-batter Sharma hit 49* runs off 27 balls. Courtesy of their brilliant batting, PBKS posted 214 runs on board after 20 overs.
When it came to the chase, MI skipper Rohit Sharma walked back to the pavilion without opening his tally but his opening partner Ishan Kishan was fantastic, as the southpaw smacked 75 runs off just 41 deliveries. Suryakumar Yadav joined the party later on as the flamboyant batter scored 66 runs off 31 balls to help Mumbai win their fifth match in the ongoing season. With that win, the five-time champions are now sixth on the IPL Points Table.
