England's Dawid Malan received an unexpected cake facial by his teammates following his scintillating century in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh. Malan blazed his way to a remarkable 140 runs in just 107 deliveries, lacing his innings with a stunning 16 boundaries and five sixes.

Malan's assault was a cause for celebration for England, especially after their lacklustre performance in the tournament opener against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Their joy knew no bounds, and in a delightful post-match gesture, Malan was greeted with a cake facial in the team hotel. What made England opener's century even more special was the unique pattern of his innings. His first 50 runs came off a brisk 39 balls, but it was in his second half-century that he truly turned on the style. It took him 52 deliveries to reach the next 50, and it was only after crossing the three-figure mark that he hit the accelerator.

Records galore as Malan hits his maiden World Cup ton

This extraordinary feat marked the 36-year-old's maiden World Cup hundred and he etched his name in the record books as the eighth England opener to achieve the coveted three-figure mark in this prestigious 50-over World Cup. But he didn't stop there; he also earned the distinction of becoming the quickest batter to notch up six ODI hundreds, reaching their in just 23 innings. 

The cricketing history books will remember this day, as only two other England batters have managed to score centuries in a World Cup hosted in India. The iconic Graham Gooch carved his name into the records with a brilliant 115 against India in Mumbai back in 1987. Similarly, Andrew Strauss etched his legacy with a stunning 158 against India in Bengaluru in 2011.
