Ravi Ashwin was seen expressing admiration for Mohammed Shami's historic seven-wicket haul by kissing his hand in the dressing room. Shami achieved this remarkable feat during the first semifinal of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup between India and New Zealand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 15.
Notably, the team led by Rohit Sharma, sought redemption as they convincingly outplayed the Kiwis by 70 runs. With this victory, India secured a spot in the final, where they will face the winners of the second semifinal scheduled to be played on November 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In terms of the game, India posted an imposing total of 397 after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer spearheaded India's innings with scores of 117 and 105, respectively. Defending the formidable target of 398 runs, Mohammed Shami delivered an exceptional performance, achieving his career-best figures of 7/57. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav also contributed with one wicket each.
Dream ODI World Cup run for Mohammed Shami
Initially benched for the first four games, the veteran pacer made a significant impact in India's fifth match against New Zealand in Dharamshala, claiming a five-wicket haul. He continued his stellar form in the competition with another outstanding performance against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, securing another fifer. In that match, the 33-year-old achieved a career-best figure of 5/18, playing a crucial role in India's 302-run win over the Kusal Mendis-led side.
Notably, during the clash against New Zealand, Shami set a new record as the fastest bowler to reach fifty wickets in the history of ODI World Cups. He achieved this milestone by dismissing Tom Latham, marking his fourth wicket in the game. So far, Shami has amassed a total of 23 wickets in six innings with an impressive average of 9.13 and an excellent economy rate of 5.01.
