On Tuesday, 31st of October, Pakistan and Bangladesh faced each other at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The toss was won by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, who chose to bat first.

Bangladesh had a very poor start as the tournament's highest wicket-taker, Shaheen Shah Afridi, struck twice early in the first innings. He first got the better of Tanzid Hasan with a brilliant inswinger, and then he removed the number three batter, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who gave a simple catch to short mid-wicket in an attempt to play a flick shot. Then the paceman, Haris Rauf, dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim to leave Bangladesh struggling at the score of 23 for three in the sixth over.

Then the experienced Mahmudullah came in and forged a partnership with Litton Das to stabilise the innings a little. However, Litton was dismissed, offering an easy catch to short mid-wicket off the off-break bowler Iftikhar Ahmed after scoring 45 off 64 balls.

Shakib then came in to bat and had a small partnership with Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. However, they kept losing wickets and were eventually bowled out for just 204 runs. Mahmudullah scored 56 off 70 balls, while Shakib scored 43 off 64 balls. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim Jr took three wickets each, while Haris Rauf took two.

In their pursuit of the target, Pakistan openers Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique got off to an impressive start, adding 128 runs for the first wicket. Abdullah was eventually dismissed after scoring 68 runs, while Fakhar Zaman, making a comeback to the team, scored 81 runs from 74 deliveries. Although captain Babar Azam briefly stayed at the crease before being dismissed cheaply, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed joined forces, guiding their team across the finishing line. Pakistan successfully chased down the target in 32.3 overs, securing a seven-wicket victory in a crucial match.
