Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his well-wishes to pacer Mohammed Shami as he underwent Achilles Tendon surgery in London on Monday, February 26. Modi expressed confidence in Shami's ability to overcome this setback swiftly. Shami, who hasn't played cricket since India's defeat to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final, sustained the injury during the tournament.
Previously, the Prime Minister's visit to the Indian dressing room following the World Cup heartbreak saw him encouraging players, including Shami, for their efforts. The 33-year-old shared updates on his health via social media, posting pictures from his hospital bed after a successful surgery. The Prime Minister's message will buoy the right arm pacer's spirits as he begins his road to recovery.

Shami was conferred with prestigious Arjuna Award
Shami, also received the prestigious Arjuna Award, and was celebrated for his exceptional contributions to cricket. He played a pivotal role in India's commendable performances in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup, where they secured runner-up positions. His remarkable feat as the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup, claiming 24 wickets in just seven matches, highlighted his prowess on the field.
“Today I am feeling very proud that I have been honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award by the President. I want to thank all those people who have helped me a lot to reach here and have always supported me in my ups and downs. Thanks to my coach, BCCI, teammates, my family, staff and big thanks to my fans. Thanks to recognise my hard work. I will always try to give my best to make my country proud,” Shami had written on his ‘X’ post after receiving the award.
