PSL 2023: Iftikhar Ahmed slams six sixes in an over of Wahab Riaz during exhibition match in Quetta

Iftikhar Ahmed took the crowd in Quetta by storm as he smacked six sixes in a single over of Wahab Riaz during an exhibition match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The match was played between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi on Sunday, February 5 at the Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti Cricket Stadium in Quetta.

Zalmi skipper Babar Azam elected to bowl first against Sarfaraz Ahmed's Quetta Gladiators. In the midst of the contest, during the final over of the innings, Iftikhar outright dominated Wahab Riaz by dispatching the ball into the stands not once but on six consecutive balls of the over.

The first six came in the square leg region followed by the second one which was a little straighter. The third maximum went sailing above the bowler's head whereas, in the fourth delivery, Wahab changed sides and came around the wicket only for Iftikhar to dispatch it over the cover boundary. 

Both the fifth and sixth deliveries were smacked in the third-man region to complete the 36 runs off an over. Iftikhar concluded the innings with 94 runs from just 50 deliveries which helped the side attain a competitive total of 184 runs in their 20 overs. Eventually, the clash was won by Quetta by two runs in a closely-contested game. 

PSL to commence on 13 February

The eighth edition of the PSL is set to take place 13 February to 19 March as defending champions Lahore Qalandars lock horns with Multan Sultans in the opening match. The 34 matches will be played over the span of one month which includes 30 group-stage fixtures followed by four playoff fixtures.

Interestingly, Wahab is the only bowler breaking the 100-wicket barrier in the league and he has racked up 103 wickets in 77 matches to his name. Meanwhile, Iftikhar heads into the PSL on the back of some incredible knocks for Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as he aggregated 347 runs which includes one ton and three half-centuries at an average of 69.40 in 10 outings.
