With the 2024 T20 World Cup looming on the horizon, the various teams have started their preparation for the marquee event, and there have been many discussions over how the Indian team could like in the tournament that will be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

However, ahead of the tournament, several reports have come forward that there is no place for ace Indian batter Virat Kohli in the squad. A reporter from Jagran News shared the post on X (formerly known as Twitter) that Kohli could miss out, with Rohit Sharma being discussed as the skipper for the Men in Blue.

“Rohit will be the captain in the T20 World Cup but there is no place for Virat. This was discussed in the BCCI meeting held in Delhi yesterday in the presence of the five selectors, head coach Rahul Dravid, and three BCCI officials. With the arrival of Shubman Gill and Yashashvi Jaiswal, Virat is not getting a place. BCCI officials will talk to Virat in this matter. Rohit wanted that if he had to be made the captain in the T20 World Cup, then it should be decided now. BCCI has decided that Rohit Sharma will be the captain in the T20 World Cup,” the reporter tweeted.

The tweet also mentioned that Shubman Gill and youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal could get the nod in the India squad for the World Cup, and Kohli’s place in the lineup could be taken away due to the same.

If the 35-year-old does not feature for India in the marquee tournament, it could cause quite a stir in the fans’ minds. Furthermore, a lot would depend on his performances in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), and it could be interesting to see how the Indian squad looks in the marquee tournament.
