Young Protean batting sensation Dewald Brevis, who took the SA20 2023 by storm after a swashbuckling batting performance in the curtain raiser, could not repeat his heroics after he was cleaned up by a sensational yorker from Durban Super Giants' Kyle Mayers.
The fifth match of the inaugural edition of South Africa's premier franchise competition saw table toppers MI Cape Town tussle with Durban Super Giants in Cape Town. The Super Giants won the toss and opted to field first in the contest. In a surprising move, Quinton de Kock threw the new ball to flamboyant Caribbean all-rounder Kyle Mayers.
His move turned out to be a masterstroke as the Windies all-rounder cleaned up the explosive Protean opening batter Dewald Brevis with a sensational delivery. The tournament has already seen several booming inswinging deliveries rattle the batters, unfortunately for Brevis, the ball dipped viciously along with the inward movement, turning into an unplayable yorker.
Yep, that's swung in a bit 😳

MI Cape Town stumble after early dismissals
The 19-year-old tried his best but could not get his bat down in time as Mayers dismissed him for a two-ball duck, making an absolute mess of the stumps. It was a crucial wicket for the Super Giants as the young batter had made quite an impression in the previous game by smashing an unbeaten 70 off just 41 deliveries on a tricky Newlands surface against the Paarl Royals.
Brevis's opening partner Ryan Rickelton was also dismissed cheaply in the fourth over of the match. Things got from bad to worse for the Cape Town-based franchise after Rassie van der Dussen and Sam Curran were dismissed in the seventh over by Prenelan Subrayen. Grant Roelofsen is playing a lone hand despite losing the top order cheaply.
