India's vice-captain and star cricketer Smriti Mandhana joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the franchise bagged her for a massive INR 3.4 crore in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. Interestingly, she was the first name in the auction pool as she placed herself in the highest bracket of INR 50 lakh in the marquee players' set.

What followed was a massive bidding war that sparked off between Mumbai Indians and the Bangalore franchise for the star player. RCB deliberated and bounced back with an improved bid to eventually acquire the services of Mandhana at a whopping INR 3.4 crore, which also was the highest bid in the first two rounds of the auction.

Meanwhile, the opening batter of the Indian side, who was keenly following the auction from South Africa, was overjoyed after getting picked up by the RCB side. Elated after joining the Bangalore-based franchise, Mandhana was seen hugging her India teammates who also congratulated her for her new venture.

Mandhana is currently a part of the Indian side which is currently in South Africa for the Women's T20 World Cup 2023. The side won their first game in the campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan and will look to continue the momentum going forward in the marquee event.

The Bangalore side has already roped in quite a few big names apart from the likes of Mandhana for the first edition of the WPL. The franchise went all in for Australia's star all-rounder Ellyse Perry after a mini bidding war with Delhi Capitals in the auction and snapped her services for INR 1.7 crore.

Perry will don the Bangalore jersey and will take the field with Mandhana. Undoubtedly, the deadly duo of Perry and Mandhana will light up the crowd at the stadiums in Mumbai. Meanwhile, RCB also bagged New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine and India’s Renuka Singh to further bolster the squad.
