Suresh Raina has decided to bid farewell to the IPL and domestic cricket as he made the news public through his Twitter handle and now, the veteran southpaw is hoping to ply his trade in the different T20 leagues across the globe after not being picked by any franchise in the IPL auction earlier this year. One of the longest-serving Indian cricketers in the league, Raina was CSK skipper MS Dhoni's most trusted and loyal soldier, representing the franchise for more than a decade.

It was an emotional moment for the Yellow Army when the management opted to move on from the southpaw when they did not retain the player ahead of the mega auction earlier this year. He remains one of the most successful batters to have featured in the IPL with over 5000 runs in more than 200 appearances with four titles  and numerous records to his name.

It is reported that the 35-year-old will continue playing cricket and will ply his trade in the franchise leagues in South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the UAE. The former India batter will be seen in action in the Road Safety World Series, starting from September 10, and has been training at the RPL cricket ground in Ghaziabad for the past year.

“I want to continue playing cricket for two or three years. There are some exciting youngsters who are coming through the ranks of Uttar Pradesh cricket. I have already taken my No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). I have informed BCCI secretary Jay Shah and vice-president Rajiv Shukla about my decision. I will play in the Road Safety Series. T20 franchises from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and UAE have contacted me but I am yet to take any decision," Raina was quoted saying to a leading newspaper agency.

Nicknamed Mr. IPL for his prolific numbers in the cash-rich league, the southpaw was not only a consistent performer in the IPL but also had an illustrious international career. The explosive batter was India's unsung hero in their triumphant World Cup campaign in 2011 as he played some crucial knocks against Australia and Pakistan in the knockout stages of the competition.

Raina was the first Indian cricketer to have a century to his name across all three formats on the international stage. The effervescent cricketer shares a strong bond with MS Dhoni and joined the former Indian skipper in retirement back in 2020.
