Team Sri Lanka took on United Arab Emirates (UAE) in both teams' second encounter of the 2022 T20 World Cup at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong on October 18 (Tuesday). Meanwhile, UAE fielder Basil Hameed grabbed all the limelight after clinching a stunner during the first innings of the match.

Hameed took the catch of Sri Lanka's opening batter Pathum Nissanka who was playing on 74 runs. Speaking about the catch, Zahoor Khan bowled a full-length delivery to Nissanka who tried to lift it over the mid-off fielder. However, Hameed had some other plans as he made a full-stretched dive and completed a sensational catch.

Apart from Hameed, 'Chennai born' Karthik Meiyappan was the star for the fielding side as he grabbed the first hat-trick of the 2022 T20 World Cup.

"Definitely hasn't (sunk in). Getting a hat-trick in a World Cup game against Sri Lanka. Against the leftie I wanted to take it away from him. Against Shanaka, that was a special ball for me to get him bowled between bat and pad," Meiyappan said during the mid-innings break.

"There was not so much purchase off the wicket, but it was important for me to bowl wicket to wicket. Will be the sweetest thing possible if the batters get us over the line," he added.

Sri Lanlka stuttered to 152

Talking about Sri Lanka's innings, Nissanka was the star with the bat as he completed an excellent fifty. Apart from him, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kusal Mendis were the only two batters who managed to cross the double-digit mark.

For UAE, Meiyappan took three wickets, followed by Zahoor Khan who took two wickets, and Afzal Khan and Aryan Lakra took one wicket each as UAE restricted Sri Lanka to just 152 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
