T20 World Cup 2022: ENG vs IRE - Best Memes from the game

The 20^th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 saw neighbours Ireland and England clash in their second fixture of their respective Super 12 campaign. Coming into the match as the hot favourites, England were handed a defeat at the hands of the Irish side, who won the occasion due to rain coming into play.

Ireland were put to bat first by the Jos Buttler-led side as the latter won the toss. Skipper Andrew Balbirnie played a massive knock of 62 runs off just 47 balls that included two maximums and five fours. Adding to this, wicketkeeper batter Lorcan Tucker fired all cylinders and scored 34 off 27 balls as the side posted a total of 157 as they were bowled out on 19.2 overs.

Rain plays spoilsport as Ireland hand an upset to England

In response to the competitive total of 157 set by the Irish side, the English batters hit the centre of the pitch to chase. However, successive fall of wickets handed Ireland a major boost and immediately put England in the backfoot.

Dismal outings by Ben Stokes, skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales swiftly gave the Irish side a hope to win the fixture. However, Dawid Malan and Moeen Ali seemed to have other ideas in place for the bowlers and they had not yet given up the battle and dispatched a few into the stands shifting the momentum back to their side. Just as the English innings was slowly gaining momentum and were on course to win the match, the rain gods decided to make their presence felt.

The match was eventually stopped as showers began pouring down at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The game was to resume but with the rains not stopping, the Irish side were handed the win by Duckworth–Lewis method winning the match by 5 runs.
