Suryakumar Yadav continued to shine with another fifty as India registered a big 71-run win over Zimbabwe in the 42nd match of the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday (November 6). India had already secured qualification for the semi-final round after South Africa's defeat against Netherlands in the morning fixture on Sunday. But with a win against Zimbabwe, India secured a top spot in the Super 12 Group 2 table with eight points and will face England in the semi-final clash on November 10.

India won the toss and elected to bat first at Melbourne Cricket Ground with Rishabh Pant replacing the veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik. Indian openers started with a 27-run partnership as Blessing Muzarabani dismissed Rohit Sharma on 15 runs in the fourth over to give Zimbabwe a big opening. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli then put on a 60-run partnership for the second wicket to avoid any early shock.

Kohli scored 26 runs off 25 balls but got caught out on Sean Williams' delivery in the 12th over and India lost KL Rahul in the next over who samshed 51 runs off 35 balls. Pant was dismissed on just three runs and Hardik Pandya struggled for big shots once again scoring 18 runs off 18 balls. But Suryakumar Yadav smashed unbeaten 61 runs off 25 balls, including 18 runs on the innings' last four balls, to guide India to a big total of 186/5.

Ravichandran Ashwin shines in India's big win

India started well with Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking Wesley Madhevere's wicket on the innings' first delivery as Kohli took a diving catch. Arshdeep Singh then continued India's good start with another big wicket of Regis Chakabva in the next over. Indian pacers dominated the powerplay overs with Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya taking wickets as well subsequently.

All-rounder Ryan Burl and Sikandar Raza then put up a little fight with a 60-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Burl smashed quick 35 runs off 22 balls and Raza scored 34 runs off 24 balls but the Indian bowlers kept taking wickets from the other end.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who took only three wickets from the opening four games, grabbed three wickets while conceding only 22 runs from his four-over spell. Shami and Pandya grabbed two wickets each as Zimbabwe's innings collapsed on just 115 runs in 17.2 overs and Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of the Match award for his 61* knock.
