T20 World Cup 2024: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announces mega cash prize of INR 125 crore

India's historic T20 World Cup 2024 triumph not only maintained an unblemished record, with victories in all eight matches, but also ended their fervent 11-year wait for an ICC title. They clinched a thrilling seven-run victory at Kensington Oval, Barbados. The scenes were euphoric as the Indian players erupted in celebration, joined by their wives and families on the ground in this momentous occasion.
Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), also extended his congratulations to Rohit Sharma and his team for their monumental achievement by making his way out to the outfield. He was observed overseeing the presentation of medals to the Indian team and actively participated in their celebratory moments, including the trophy-lifting ceremony. But that wasn't all.
On Sunday, June 30, Jay Shah took to X, saying, “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”

Before the tournament commenced, Geoff Allardice, the Chief Executive of the ICC, emphasized the historic significance of the 2024 edition, highlighting the substantial prize money allocated for both players and teams. From the ICC's side, India, the winner of the marquee event, received $2.45 million (INR 20.42 crore) in cash prize.
Meanwhile, the next assignment of the Men in Blue will be travelling to Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series, where Shubman Gill will be leading a fresh look Indian team. Youngsters like Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag who performed exceptionally during the IPL 2024 edition have been rewarded a national call-up for their stellar showings. The NCA chief VVS Laxman will fly alongside the team as the designated head coach for the tour, before a new name is announced to fill the position vacated by Rahul Dravid.
