Glenn Phillips took an incredibly stunning catch to dismiss middle order batter Marcus Stoinis during the first ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 encounter between the defending champions Australia and New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, October 22.
What really stood out here was that it was no ordinary catch and was indeed a superhuman effort from Phillips to ensure that there were no heroics from Stoinis who has been a proven finisher in the past few years.
Glenn Phillips takes a screamer to put Australia in a spot of bother
Chasing a stiff 201, the Aussies got off to the worst possible start having lost their top-order batters inside the Powerplay. The onus was then on the middle-order duo of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell to bail their side out of trouble.
While the duo tried their level best to keep the scoreboard ticking, the asking rate was getting steeper as a result of which both batters had to go for big shots and Stoinis decided to take that risk.
On the second delivery of the ninth over bowled by the left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner, Marcus Stoinis made some room and decided to play a lofted shot over cover off a slower delivery. For a moment, it appeared that the ball would fall in no man's land.
Nonetheless, Glenn Phillips who was stationed at the deep showed a great presence of mind when the ball was long way up in the air as he instantly sprinted to his right. Phillips put in a full-fledged dive and successfully completed the catch.

A dejected Stoinis walked back to the dugout scoring just seven runs off 14 deliveries with Australia reeling at 50/4. Nothing really clicked for Australia in the day and their entire unit came back to the dugout on 111 runs, handing a 89-run massive victory to New Zealand.
