Team India's 'best fielder' medal ceremony garnered immense interest during the ODI World Cup 2023. Though the 'Men In Blue' were unable to clinch the World Cup title, this did not stop the Indian fielding coach from constantly encouraging Indian players to do their acrobatic best on the field and due appreciation continued post the World Cup Final as well. In the same venue, before the grand final of the World Cup, Indian management awarded the 'best fielder' medal for incredible efforts in the previous 10 games of the marquee event.

Interestingly enough, during the time of the medal awarding ceremony, the fielding coach adopted various interesting ways to declare the result of every game and its worthy winner. T Dilip, the fielding coach of the Indian team revealed on several occasions that he had introduced the medal custom a few months before and the Indian team has stuck by its importance in delivering their best on the field by putting their body on the line.

“Basically, it is about judging attitude, yes there are statistics for catches taken but we look at the overall contribution. An innings has 300 balls, how do you handle them on the field? This is not just about one brilliant catch; it is about the overall effort,” Dilip was quoted as saying by Sports Star.

Sachin Tendulkar had announced winner of 'Best Fielder' medal during ODI World Cup 2023

Meanwhile, speaking of the ODI World Cup campaign, the Rohit Sharma-led India showed their fielding prowess on the field in crunch moments which meant that the Men in Blue went on a 10-game winning streak. During these games, many Indian players bagged the prestigious 'best fielder' medal ranging from their name getting showcased on the big screen of the venue to the former India legend, Sachin Tendulkar, taking out time for the team and virtually announcing the name of the winner.

Consequently, the Indian team maintained pressure on their opponents for most of the time thereby making it difficult for the opposition to score freely. Eventually, this contributed to Team India having better catching efficiency than most of the teams in the ODI World Cup 2023.
