Australia and India faced off in the highly anticipated final match of the ODI World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After winning the toss, Australia chose to field first.

Australia's comfortable six-wicket victory over India in the game secured their record sixth ODI World Cup trophy. Following the game, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was seen engaging in a conversation with the players, offering them words of consolation after their defeat in the final.

Coming to the match, Australia defeated India quite comfortably by six wickets. Travis Head's outstanding century, supported by Marnus Labuschagne's crucial partnership, was the key to Australia's win.

We were not good enough today: Rohit Sharma

After the match, Indian captain Rohit Sharma admitted that India had not performed up to their potential, falling short by 20-30 runs.

“The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. We tried everything but it wasn't supposed to be. 20-30 runs more would have been good, KL and Kohli were stitching a good partnership and we were looking at 270-280 but we kept losing wickets,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Despite the challenging loss, Rohit emphasised that India had tried everything they could but had not put enough runs on the board. He credited Australia's batting duo for their outstanding partnership and acknowledged that India's early wickets were not enough to turn the game in their favour.

“When you have 240 on the board, you want to take wickets but credit to Head and Labuschagne who stitched together a big partnership and put us completely out of the game.”

“We tried everything we could but I feel the wicket got slightly better to bat under lights. We knew under lights it would be slightly better to bat, but don't want to give that as an excuse. We didn't put enough runs on the board. With the seamers upfront, we took those 3 wickets and another wicket there, we could open up the game. Credit to those two guys in the middle for stitching an outstanding partnership,” the Indian captain added.
