In a heartwarming display of camaraderie and sportsmanship, Nepal's bowling all-rounder, Sompal Kami shared a special moment with Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli during the Asia Cup 2023 encounter at the Pallekele International Stadium on Monday.
Batting at No. 8, Kami showcased his prowess with the bat as he contributed a crucial 48 runs off 56 balls, including a boundary and two sixes. His performance with the bat powered Nepal to a respectable total of 230 runs in 48.2 overs.
He couldn't replicate the same performance with the ball as India managed to chase down the revised target of 145 runs within 23 overs, securing a resounding ten-wicket victory.
Yet, it wasn't just Kami's cricketing prowess that stole the spotlight; it was his off-field moment that captured the hearts of fans worldwide. The 27-year-old cricketer took to his Twitter account, posting a picture with the former Indian skipper and a signed shoe with Kohli's autograph. With admiration, Kami captioned the post, "Virat Kohli is not just a cricketer, he's an emotion.”

In contrast, India's performance with the bat was brilliant, thanks to Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 74 and the young Shubman Gill’s 67. The duo left the Nepalese bowlers in awe, ensuring a comfortable chase of the target. However, India's fielding left much to be desired, with several dropped catches, including three within the first five overs. Those missed chances allowed Nepal to set a good target of 230 runs.
As the tournament progresses, India must address their fielding woes to stay competitive in the upcoming Super 4 stage, where they are likely to face the trio of formidable opponents such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, even after showing great temperament, Nepal have been knocked out of the tournament with back-to-back losses, first against Pakistan and then against India.
