India thump Sri Lanka by 302 runs

Coming to the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field first. The match began with the dismissal of Indian captain Rohit Sharma on the second ball. However, a remarkable 189-run partnership for the second wicket between Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli helped India stabilize their innings and strengthen their position in the game. Unfortunately, both batters were dismissed in quick succession by Dilshan Madhushanka, falling short of their centuries. Gill scored 92 runs while Kohli contributed 88 runs.

Following their dismissals, Shreyas Iyer, who had been struggling with his batting form in the tournament, showcased his exceptional batting skills by scoring a quickfire 82 runs with three fours and six sixes, propelling India's total to 357 runs.

Chasing the target, the Sri Lankan team faced immense pressure right from the beginning and lost wickets at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for a mere 155 runs, resulting in a comprehensive defeat of 302 runs for Sri Lanka. Mohammed Shami was declared the man of the match for his five-wicket haul.

Talking about Virat Kohli, he has displayed remarkable form throughout the ongoing World Cup, amassing 442 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 88.40. He currently holds the second position on the list of highest run-scorers in the tournament, with Quinton de Kock leading the chart with 545 runs and four centuries to his name.
