Trivandrum-born Indian cricketer, Sanju Samson, was recently requested to attend a press conference marking the launch of the inaugural edition of the Kerala Cricket League. Organized by the Kerala Cricket Association, he was invited in his capacity as an esteemed honorary member of the state and a distinguished chief guest.
During the event, amidst a flurry of inquiries directed at him, a journalist posed a question regarding the selectors' decision to overlook Samson despite his splendid knock of 108 runs off 114 balls in his final fixture before the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which ultimately resulted in a victory against the Proteas in Paarl. The correspondent sought his views on this matter, anticipating a potentially contentious response.
In contrast, Samson's reply mirrored the composed and mature demeanour he exhibits on the field, characterized by thoughtful reasoning and eloquence. A fan present at the event recorded this response and subsequently shared the video online, which has since gained widespread traction across the internet.

Responding to the query in Malayalam, Samson conveyed that his primary ethos was to perform consistently whenever selected by the selection committee, maintaining a resolute stance on this principle. He emphasized his belief in focusing on the broader perspective, stating that as long as the team was achieving success, he considered that to be more than sufficient. Samson further remarked that he endeavoured to manage and influence the aspects within his control, adopting a positive outlook and continuously making adjustments to his efforts.
"I will just go and play whenever they select it. That's it! End of the day, our team is doing well. I am the kind of person who believes in higher purpose. I just try to take things positively under controllable circumstances and put up the efforts," stated Samson, while responding to the question posed to him.
India secured victory in the match where Samson achieved his maiden ODI century, triumphing by 78 runs and clinching a 2-1 series win. Despite this impressive performance, the selectors opted for Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul over Samson's Sri Lanka tour.
