Pat Cummins led Australia are inching ever closer to their maiden World Test Championship title after pocketing a daunting lead in the third innings of the summit clash. While the Aussies were already in a commanding position before the Lunch break on the fourth day, Mitchell Starc's brisk cameo deflated the Indian bowlers in the second session.
The Australian innings suffered an inauspicious start when star batter Marnus Labuschagne perished inside the first hour of play on the fourth day. While Cameron Green and Alex Carey blunted the Indian attack after that initial blow, Green's unfortunate dismissal ended the first session on level terms.
However, Australia came out all guns blazing in the second session as the pair of Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc added 93 runs for the seventh wicket in just 120 deliveries. Despite Carey being well set at the crease, it was Starc who took the attack to the Indian bowlers, especially against a tired fast bowling unit.
Mohammed Shami ends Mitchell Starc's adventure at the crease
The southpaw, who is renowned for his exceptional exploits with the ball, played some glorious shots during his stay at the crease, including back-to-back boundaries against Indian speedster Mohammed Shami. However, Starc fell just nine short of a well-deserved half-century after perishing in the same over, attempting an expansive shot against Shami. He compiled 41 runs in just 57 deliveries, smashing seven boundaries during his stay.
