Son of a tea seller, Zaid Alam, set to play for Pakistan in the U19 World Cup

With the ICC U19 World Cup just around the corner, the participating nations have started with their penultimate preparations for the mega event. The junior World Cup is the first big platform which offers talented and budding cricketers a platform to showcase their abilities in front of the world.

The U19 World Cup is a springboard for youngsters, giving fans and pundits a chance to get a glimpse of the stars of the future. Many legends of the present generation like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, Graeme Smith among others first featured in this tournament.

And in a recent heartwarming news, son of a tea seller, Zaid Alam, has made it to Pakistan’s Under-19 team for the upcoming World Cup, and he hopes to achieve much more. Alam Khan, the father of the young batsman, runs a small tea stall to make ends meet. Growing up, he used to work alongside his father and brother at the tea stall.

Zaid’s journey has not been easy. Quite often, he had to face severe financial issues, but he never let that deter him from pursuing his passion. The youngster started off playing cricket at the club level and then eventually garnered the attention of selectors with his promising performance.

Zaid dreams to become a part of the Pakistan senior team

Upbeat on his son’s inclusion in the national team and speaking about Zaid’s journey, Alam told Geo News, “We never had any money nor did we ever think along these lines. Allah helped my son move forward in his life.”

He also lauded Zaid’s hard work and determination. “His achievement is a result of his hard work,” Alam said that his son’s best quality is the respect he has for his teachers and mentors.

“I will give my 110 percent to the team and ensure that Pakistan becomes victorious,” he told Geo News. He added that he hopes to make his mark in the world of cricket and become part of Pakistan’s cricket team.
