Team India is all set to take on England in the T20I series at home. The first of the three T20Is kicks off at Kanpur on January 26. The side will have a few fresh faces coming to the fore. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly believes that the platform will be set for the likes of Rishabh Pant to excel. In a recent conversation with India Today, Ganguly spoke about the team combinations that could work out for India.

The hosts have a plethora of new faces in the T20 squad compared to squads that played in the Tests and the ODIs. Rishabh Pant, Mandeep Singh, Suresh Raina, Parvez Rasool, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ashish Nehra are the ones who are set to feature in the shortest format. India certainly has the problem of plenty and they will need to make sure that they manage to get their best combination ahead. The star attraction among all players would be batsman Rishabh Pant.

The young batsman from Delhi has been plundering runs at will this season. His attacking gameplay has drawn praises from all fronts. Sourav Ganguly is no exception. Ganguly quoted that the opportunity is just about perfect for young Pant. He remarked how the selectors kept praising his game in the warm up match.

“It’s a great oppotunity for allowing these youngsters to come and play. Once they come in, you will see how good they are. The selectors are speaking very highly of Rishab Pant. I was sitting in the box the other day at the Eden Gardens speaking to one of the selectors and even some of the people who have watched him play say that some of the shots he played in the warm-up game against England were unbelievable,” quoted Sourav Ganguly.

He further added that the kind of game Pant plays, he is best suited for the middle order. He cited that Pant does not like holding back and it is this trait that can work wonders for him and the team.

“That’s how young talents are unleashed and that’s how I think Rishabh Pant should be thrown into the deep end. He is someone who doesn’t hold back. You have seen his performances in Ranji Trophy, he just likes to hit the ball and I think he could be a good option in the middle order,” Ganguly continued.

While Pant’s inclusion remains in uncertainty, there is another veteran who is making a comeback. Suresh Raina will be back in the team but skipper Virat Kohli needs to find a place in the line up to accomodate Raina. Speaking about Raina, Sourav Ganguly mentioned that the UP batsman is a good choice as he can chip in with a few overs too.

“Suresh Raina is a dangerous player in the T20 format and Virat Kohli will try to somehow fit him in. Raina can also give a bit of off-spin and bowl a couple of over. So, Kohli has got the options open. It has been a close series so far in the ODI format. Those three games could have gone either way till the last over. So, from that point of view, it will be a good series because England are a good side,” he conceded.
