Sourav Ganguly biopic likely to see daylight in the coming months

The film-making industry has been taking immense interest in the lives of the sportspersons in the recent times. A number of biopics have rolled out on the silver screen depicting the struggles and achievements of the prominent names of the world of sports. And now, if the rumours are to be believed, another biopic might soon come out on the big screen – this time, a story based on Sourav Ganguly.

Sourav Ganguly is revered as one of the finest leaders of the Indian cricket team. Ganguly had assumed the captaincy hat at a time when the Indian cricket was in shatters, and traumatised by match fixing rumours. Ganguly took the new-look side with him and ended up registering famous wins for the national side, at home and on the foreign soil.

Certainly, a movie on his life would be inspiring. No wonder why the film-makers are quite keen to start the project soon. As per the recent reports in Times of India, Srijit Mukherji is set to direct the biopic. Earlier, there were rumors that Ekta Kapoor is very much interested in producing the movie. Now, with the name of the Director floating in the media, it seems that the movie can see daylight soon.

Srijit Mukherji to lead the project?

It is worth noting that even Sourav Ganguly had once mentioned that he would like to see a top Bengali film-maker lead the project of his biopic, if it ever gets underway. The movie, if it starts to roll out, will be based on the autobiography of Sourav Ganguly, which was titled “A Century in not enough”. The book was penned down by renowned journalist, Gautam Bhattacharya.

Also, Ganguly had recently revealed that Srijit Mukherji has approached him with the biopic idea. However, when asked to confirm the news, Ganguly did not give out any clues. For now, Srijit is busy with his project ‘Shah Jahan Regency’, which is set to be released in January, 2019. Srijit’s another assignment, ‘Vinci Da’, is also underway and is in production at the moment.
