After a patchy first game as the Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma made amends in the Mohali ODI. He did so in a tremendous fashion. The Indian opener became the first ever cricketer to hit three double hundreds in One-Day Internationals. And eventually, India managed to win its first game under Rohit’s captaincy.

He scored a magnificent 208 not out from just 153 balls. Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was all praise for Hitman. He was surely amazed by the consistency portrayed by Rohit in scoring double hundreds. He also looked forward to the batsman proving a point in the longer format of the game in South Africa.

It’s a fabulous knock but not a career-changing one

The former Indian skipper was delighted with Sharma’s consistency to get the big runs. Describing his first ever 200 against Australia as a career-changing one, Ganguly remarked that the limited-overs opener had evolved over time.

“What stands out to me is his consistency of getting double hundreds. The first one against Australia was a career-changing one and a batsman-changing one. When you get your first, you realise your potential and you know that you can do it again. He did that again at the Eden Gardens and got 264,” Dada said.

“I don’t think this one is a career-changing knock for him but it’s a fabulous knock because he’s got another double hundred. The best thing is his consistency of getting double hundreds which is very, very important,” the former Indian captain was quoted as saying by India Today.

He’s just 30, he has a lot of cricket left in him

He expects Rohit to replicate his limited-overs success in the Test format. He looked forward to the Indian opener delivering with the bat in South Africa. Dada also added that since Rohit was just 30, there has a lot of cricket to look forward to.

“Hopefully when he gets to play at the Cape Town Test, he gets a big score. And it will completely change his total career because there is now doubt about his T20 and one day abilities but I hope this will transform him as a complete player. I just can’t see such a quality player not doing well in all the three formats. He’s just 30, he has got lot of cricket left in him,” Ganguly mentioned.

Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh was present in the stands as he reached his double hundred. She could be seen shedding tears of joy as the Indian skipper crossed the 200-run mark for the third time. It was also his second anniversary and Rohit dedicated it to his wife.
