Sourav Ganguly refers to himself as a ‘mad-max’ captain

During the launch of his book ‘A Century is Not Enough’ in Delhi, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly revealed many interesting tales and secrets regarding Indian cricket. He was present alongside protégé Yuvraj Singh and news anchor and author Rajdeep Sardesai. Fellow players Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh along with former board president Anurag Thakur recollected instances of how Ganguly shaped a young India and also let out a few dressing room secrets during the event.

He recalled the famous shirt-waving incident at the Lord’s balcony in the 2002 Natwest series. Yuvraj revealed that ‘he too’ had removed his shirt on Dada’s insistence and Ganguly related how VVS. Laxman kept pulling down his shirt all the while and Harbhajan Singh who was also there with them asked the captain on what should he be doing.

Speaking to reporters, Ganguly said, “On one hand, we had players like Laxman and Dravid and on the other the mad-max captain waving his shirt. Laxman kept pulling it down while Bhajji was standing behind me asking, ‘what should I do?'”

The 45-year-old’s fallout with erstwhile coach Greg Chappell is no secret to Indian cricket fans.  The ugly feud which saw the ‘Prince of Kolkata’ forced out of the team and somewhat initiate a premature decline of his career is nearly a decade old now but Ganguly has come out openly about it in his book

Dada revealed the problems started with an inconsequential game against the Zimbabwe A team when he was hurting from a tennis elbow and “retired hurt” to nurse the injury. And much to Ganguly’s surprise, Chappell insisted that he goes out and bats.

The Aussie committed other shenanigans as well. Ganguly mentions about the email leak in which Chappell talked at length about the match and how Ganguly was “spasmodic in his treatment habits”
